McDonnell-Douglas F-15 "Eagle"
The F-15 was designed as a twin engine aircraft with advanced avionics including a fly-by-wire control system and the APG-63 radar. Later models used the APG-70 radar. During trials it displayed phenomenal performance. It entered service in January 1976. Later modifications included up-dated electronics and provision for FAST (Fuel And Sensor Tactical) packs. These packs are attached in the angle between the engine trunks and the under surfaces of the wings, providing greater fuel capacity. These packs also provide additional weapon attachment points without any signigicant drag problems. There have been five F-15 models: The F-15A initial single-seated models; The F-15B a two-seated model; The F-15C improved single-seated model with more capable electronic counter measures and provisions for the new AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles; The F-15D An improved two-seated model; The F-15E Eagle the world's finest air superiorty and all-weather attack aircraft. |
